Installing and Removing Sample Data in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011

After installing Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 you can easily load sample data into your CRM system by doing the following:
Go to Settings --> System --> Data Management --> Sample Data











Click on Sample Data and a popup screen will open













 Click on Install Sample Data














In the meantime you still can use CRM and after a minute the sample data is installed into your system.
If you want to remove the sample data from you system you just easily Click on Remove Sample Data.

Update Rollup 3 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 (KB 2547347)

Microsoft has released Update Rollup 3 for CRM 2011 on the 26th of July. This is a tested, cumulative set of updates for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011. It includes performance enhancements that are packaged together for easy deployment. The files can be found here.

Update Rollup 18 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 (KB 2477777)

Microsoft released Rollup 18 already on June the 28th for Dynamics CRM 4.0. The download files for the x86 and x64 versions can be found here.

2011.07.12 till 2011.07.14 Exhibition CRM-Project at WPC11 LA

The next days at the convention center where amazing. We had so much interest in CRM-Project and we spoke to so many potential partners and customers that it was a really great succes to be at the WPC11 in LA. I have given much demo's and presentations about CRM-Project, so hopefully we will receive a lot of feedback and sign a lot of contracts :).
I spoke to people all over the world and it is really nice to see the interest in CRM-Project worldwided. This proofs again that it is an amazing product.

Every evening we had a different party in downtown LA or Hollywood so I had the time of my life.
Did spoke with lots a Dutch companies at the WPC11 like CWR, CRM Resultants, Evident, Tempero and more.....so really good times in LA.

Next year the WPC will be held in Toronto so off to Canada next year :)

2011.07.11 - Opening WPC2011 Los Angeles

Monday the 11th of July and today the WPC2011 wil begin. After a quick breakfast in my hotel I took the cab to the Staples Center Los Angeles where the keynote was of Steve Balmer. I took my cab around 8 and no trafic jams on a Monday morning in downtown LA. About 20.000 people come together on the WPC2011 this year and the view in the LA Lakers stadium was amazing, what cool!After the keynote I went over to the Exhibiton Center where the booth of itara was and we had a really amazing busy 1st day.
In the evening we had another German party in Hollywood LA at the Walk of Fame. My first experience in Hollywood, to see that Walk of Fame and all the starts really nice :).
Late to bed and off early for the next 2nd day at the convention.

2011.07.09 - Day 2 in Los Angeles at the WPC11

Day 2 - Sunday and just a little bit time issue problem. Woke up at 01:30 local time and got back to sleep till 06h. Today we are going to the Staples Center where the WPC11 is and we are going to visit the itara booth.
Booth looks really nice and lots of work need to be done. After a whole day of preparation we went back to the hotel for a quick shower and nap.
I just fell asleep when suddenly the roomcleaner was next to me, it scared the hell out of me and her.
In the evening we where invited for the openingsparty but we missed it and by mistake we ended up at ICON club on the rooftop across the Staples Center next to Hooters. It was really an amazing party, GREAT!!!
Now off to bed because next day starts the WPC11.

2011.07.09 - Off to Los Angeles for the WPC11

Saturday the 9th of July and again at Schiphol Airport. I see Schiphol Airport more often then I see home lately. Today I am flying to first Detroit and then to Los Angeles for attending the Worldwide Partner Converence 2011. My plane is boarding at 07:50h, so I had to be early at Schiphol (05.30h pfff).

The service on the Delta Airbus 300 was really great and seats where comfortable with each a private scree, so I saw 3 movies during the almost 8h flight :).

We landed in Detroit at 16h GMT+1 (10h local time) and I must say my first time to the USA and it is big!!!. We had to go through the passport check, nothing like I use to. In the US everything is so heavy secured. Weather in Detroit: 25 degrees so really nice.

Just spend the next 4 hours at Detroit, due to the fact tha the plane to Los Angeles had some unknown technical issues, so we had to wait for a new plane to come available.

Spoke to really nice American people and everybody is so kind. Really to like it. Detroit airport is HUGE!!!!!, Schiphol is compared to Detroit just tiny.

But after 4 hours finally off to Los Angeles and we landed at LAX at 15:15 local time to I have a 9 hours timelab with the Netherlands.

Waiting for my suitecase and almost 1,5 hour for a cab GRRRR I arrived finally at my hotel at 17:30h local time.

So taking a shower and seeing for the first time downtown LA, really huge and nice.

I am off the the welcomes party at the Mariott ION Rooftop bar now, so now bed for me (and awake for 24 hours now). I will post tomorrow morning again.....

There are 3 individual exams already available for CRM 2011:

1. MB2-866 – Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Customization and Configuration
2. MB2-867 – Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Installation and Deployment
3. MB2-868 – Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Applications

The fourth exam “Extending Dynamics CRM 2011” is not yet available, but it is planned for release in August.

 

I will try to get my exams asap and of course I will keep you all informed.

Error CRM 4.0 installation: Service msftesql was not found on the computer

When installing CRM 4.0 on a Win2K8 R2 x64 machine with SQL Server 2008 R2 x64 you might get the following error during the CRM 4.0 installation:
Service msftesql was not found on the computer

The cause of this problem is that the msftesql is the Microsoft SQL Server Full Text Indexing Service which has a different name under SQL 2008.

The solution for this error is:

1. Run --> Regedit
2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
3. Rename the MSSQLFDLauncher Folder to msftesql
4. Reboot the system
5. Administrative Tools --> Services --> SQL Full-text Filter Daemon Launcher (MSSQLSERVER) and check the Start status
6. Continue the CRM 4.0 installation

Microsoft Dynamics Convergence 2010 London

Last week I attended the Convergence in London. It took place in the Twickenham stadium just outside London. For CRM the convergence was all about CRM 2011 so great breakout sessions.
The highlights of the convergence are:
- Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 will be global released in January 2011
- Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online will be released in January 2011
- Price of CRM Online will be €31 per user per month
- New features in CRM 2011 like field level security, managed solutions module, new workflow foundation engine, .NET 4.0 based, solution packaging, improved webservices, improved performance and lots more.

Tomorrow the Convergence 2010 will take place in The Hague and I will attend the first CRM 2011 training at Microsoft The Netherlands Schiphol on friday.

Error installing update rollup 7 on the CRM server

I received the following error when I tried to install rollup 7 on the CRM servers:
Microsoft.Crm.UpdateWrapper.DBUpdateAction failed

Please check that if you are running a 64bit OS and CRM installation, the update rollup 7 must be installed also on the 64bit version.
If you are using the language packs you can install rollup 7 32bit for the languages packs and install the latest rollup 64bit on the servers.

Error re-installing CRM 4.0 on windows 2008 server

When you are going to re-install CRM, you might get the folowing error during the installation:
Fatal error during installation: Installation failed for Microsoft Application Error Reporting.

Solutions is to uninstall the Microsoft Application Error Reporting, see below.
So please remind this step and of course also delete the following items before re-installing:
- SQL databases (MSCRM_CONFIG, ..._MSCRM databases)
- CRM Organization Unit in Active Directory if made (5 groups)

Error CRM 4.0 on Windows Server 2008 - Service cisvc was not found on computer

When you are installing CRM 4.0 on a Windows 2008 server you can get the error:
Service cisvc was not fount on the computer.

To resolve this issue, you have to install a feature from the File Server Role, see below:

Select Windows Server 2003 File Services, see below:

Continue with the CRM 4.0 installation.

Update Rollup 13 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 (KB 2267499)

Microsoft released Rollup 13 for CRM 4.0 last week. The update can be downloaded here.
Please note that the language pack must be installed before you can apply the rollup for that language pack. The language pack can be downloaded here.

Please also note that rollup 7 is prerequisite for Outlook and the Data Migration Manager. Rollups 1 tm 12 are NOT prerequisit for the Server.

Additional you must have .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Server Roles

In CRM 4.0 you have the opportunity to install CRM on 2 servers, an Application Server and a Platform server. When you are configuring the Outlook Client, you need to fill the the url of CRM for connecting to the CRM server, this URL must be the url where the Discovery Service Role is running. Below you find a tabel of the different roles that are running on both the CRM servers.

VirtualBox

Yesterday I started with creating a new image for running the CRM 2011 beta edition. I tried to create a x64 image on my Windows 7 OS x64 machine but NO???? grrrr Virtual PC doens't support creating x64 images, so TWITTER is the solutions and Sebastiaan pointed me on Virtualbox. I have my Windows 2008 R2 x64 with Exchange 2010 x64 and SQL Server 2008 R2 x64 now running with VirutalBox. GREAT tooling so check the website and you can download it here. Yesterday I bought my first Apple device: An iPhone 3GS 32GB simlock free because I don't want to use the T-Mobile network. Yesterday night I tried to activate my iPhone GRRR.
First issue: where do I need to put my simcard?
Second issue: how can I activiate my iPhone?

and yes I can dial numbers, sent messages and of course download some great apps.

SORRY SORRY SORRY for not blogging for a while. It has been a very busy last months for me. I have setup my own business and this has taken all my time. Furthermore I am working on 2 CRM projects, one at the Dutch Redcross and one in the Transport industry. Very nice project to do... and it keeps me busy all time :). CWR Mobiliity Certification Training

Friday was the first CWR Mobility Certification Training at Regus World Trade Center in Rotterdam at the 31th floor: DAMM wat a fantastic view!!! The training was devided in a Sales training and a Technical training. The day was really fantastic and really good organized by CWR Mobility. I learned a lot about how to sell CWR Mobile. At the end of the day we went to diner at Restaurant New York next to Las Palmas. What a wonderfull diner and a great fish restaurant. More news on CWR Mobile will follow asap.

Microsoft Dynamics Convergence 2009 in Rotterdam

Last Thursday was the Microsoft Dynamics Convergence in Rotterdam. After a 3.5 hour drive we finally arrived in a terrible location, but there were a lot of people and everybody in Dynamics Netherlands was there. Of course the program was mostly the same as in London. There were a lot of xRM news and accelerators news but unfortunatelly nothing on CRM5.

Later that evening we went to diner with Microsoft US and Ronals Lemmen MVP at Amsterdam, really fantastic evening!!!

Microsoft Dynamics Convergence 2009 in London

Tuesday October 27th 2009, I attend the Convergence in London. For the first time this year the Convergence will take place in 4 city's across Europe. I will also attend the Convergence in Rotterdam on November 5th. In London was no news about Version 5 but more news on the accelerators in combination with Windows 7 and Office 2010. I had 5 meetings with partnerships of my company and had meetings with the builders of my website and designers. I did also meet some interesting people in the CRM community of the UK. SalesCentric Custom Views in Outlook Client error

When using Custom View from SalesCentric, you will see that Custom Views is available in the CRM Webclient. But when using the Outlook client, you will see that Custom Views is not available under your My Work space, see picture below.

To solve this issue, you have to modify the SiteMap.xml file. Please make sure that you have a backup of the original SiteMap!!!

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Software Development Kit (SDK 4.0.9)

Microsoft has updated the SDK for Dynamics CRM 4.0 to version 4.0.9 and it can be downloaded from the Microsoft Corporate site.

Error - blank.aspx-file

Error:
When opening CRM by several users, an error prompt asking to save a file named: Blank.aspx.
This error was caused by a Windows UpdateKB 953838.

Solution:
To fix this error, please follow the steps below on every CRM server.

1. Open the file blank.aspx on \Inetpub\wwwroot\CRM\_root
2. Add any text to the first line, for example Loading...
   Loading...
   <% Response.Expires = 1440; %>
   <% Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.Public); %>
3. Save and close the file.
4. Delete temporary internet files. Open My Computer, right click on c:\ then click properties then Disk Clean up. Make sure Temporary Internet files is clicked.
5. Reset IIS.
6. Test CRM and make sure the error doesn’t appear again.

Error - HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized KB 871179

The following error is a famous error during a CRM implementation:
You receive an "HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials" error message when you try to access a Web site that is part of an IIS 6.0 application pool.
Please check KB article 871179 for the solution.

The following issues occurs when deploying a custon .NET application:

Solution for ERROR CRM 4.0 update workflow on INT FIELD

Finally we have found the solution for the Worflow update error, this was caused by the Rollup 3 installlation. The web.config file was changed, please add the following line to the file:

Hosted Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 running on IE 8.0

Microsoft has released Internet Explorer 8.0 and so I installed the new version on my MSI U100 (running on XP SP3 32BIT) and on my HP tx2650 (running on Vista SP1 32BIT). Of course I also tried to run our Hosted CRM on IE 8.0 and I must say, so far, so good (ONLY CERTIFICATE ERROR). Please see screenshots below. The latest version of IE 8.0 can be downloaded here.

The Microsoft Exchange MAPI subsystem is not installed

When installing the E-mail Router on a CRM server or Exchange Server you might get the error: The Microsoft Exchange MAPI subsystem is not installed on this machine.


Please install the Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1 first before continue the installation. This file can be downloaded here.


After that run the E-mail Router setup again you can configure your E-mail Router. Success!!!

Update Rollup 2 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 (KB 959419) Released

Microsoft has released Update Rollup 2 on Janury the 19th. This is a tested, cumulative set of updates for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. It includes performance enhancements that are packaged together for easy deployment.

Update Rollup 2 contains updates (32 and 64 BIT) regarding the server, client, router, data manager and SRS and it can be downloaded here.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Software Development Kit (SDK) 4.0.7 Released

Microsoft has released the SDK version 4.0.7. on January 15th .
The Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Software Development Kit (SDK) is for developers, system customizers, and report writers. It contains all new information about creating plug-ins, working with custom workflow activities, using the new Web services, using new data management features, and much more. Everything developed outside the SDK is NOT supported!

This is my last post of 2008. A few more hours to go and also in the Netherlands 2009 is going to start. Looking back at 2008 I hope that this was a very good CRM year for everybody (apart from the economic situation). I hope to see you all in 2009!!! ENJOY the last hours of 2008 and be carefull with the fireworks:)

I wish you all a merry christmas. In the next couple of days, the temperature in the Netherlands will go below zero, so perhaps we can have some iceskating at the end of the year. I am off to my X-mas holidays and I will be back at work on the 5th of January 2009.

Error Allow Microsoft Dynamics CRM to send e-mail using CRM for Outlook

In the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Virtual Machine image of February 2008, there was an error when enabling the checkbox "Allow Microsoft Dynamics CRM to send e-mail using CRM for Outlook" in the Outlook Client. This error was also mentions in the Post of Menno's blog.

In the Outlook Client, go to CRM - Options - E-mail Tab

Error when enabling the checkbox.

Uninstall the Outlook Client by clicking on:

Start - All Programs - Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 - Configuration wizard.
Then Reinstall the Outlook Client.

After Reinstalling:

In the Outlook Client, go to CRM - Options - E-mail Tab
Enable the checkbox

WaveAccess Chat Online Live on my blog

Microsoft has release update rollup 1 for CRM 4.0 on wednesday 24th. KB952858 can be downloaded here.

This upate is for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Server, Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook, and Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 E-mail Router.

Please note that if you have customized Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Help files, back up your customized files before you install this update!!!
